Connect Proofpoint Security Awareness Training to Anzenna

This guide walks you through integrating Anzenna with Proofpoint Security Awareness Training (SAT) to monitor employee security training status, phishing simulation results, and compliance metrics.

Prerequisites

  • Proofpoint SAT administrator access
  • Anzenna account with integration permissions

  • Ability to create API tokens in Proofpoint

Overview

The integration provides visibility into:

  • Security awareness training completion rates

  • Phishing simulation campaign results
  • Employee risk scores
  • Training compliance status
  • Module completion tracking

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Enable Integration in Anzenna

  1. Log into Anzenna at

    app.anzenna.ai

  2. Navigate to Settings > Integrations

  3. Find the Proofpoint SAT card

  4. Toggle the switch to enable the integration

  5. The integration form will appear, but leave it open

2. Access Proofpoint SAT

  1. Open a new browser window
  2. Log into Proofpoint Security Awareness Training admin portal

  3. URL format: https://your-instance-region-securityeducation.com

3. Navigate to API Settings

  1. Click on Company Settings (gear icon)

  2. Select API Tokens from the settings menu

Admin Required

Only users with administrator privileges can create and manage API tokens.

4. Create API Token

  1. Click Create New Token or Add Token

  2. Enter a descriptive name:

    API token for Anzenna

5. Configure Token Permissions

  1. Under Permissions, select Reporting

  2. Set expiration to Never expire

Token Expiration

Setting the token to never expire reduces maintenance overhead. If your security policy requires expiration, set an appropriate timeframe and calendar reminder.

6. Generate and Copy Token

  1. Click Generate or Create to create the token

  2. Copy the API token immediately
Important

The token is only displayed once. Save it securely - you cannot retrieve it later.

  1. Store the token in a secure location

7. Complete Anzenna Configuration

  1. Return to the Anzenna integrations page (the tab you left open)

  2. Paste the API token into the Token field

  3. Enter your Base URL in the format:

    https://<identifier>-<region>-securityeducation.com

  4. Examples:
  5. Click Save to complete the integration

Finding Your Base URL

Your base URL is the domain you use to access Proofpoint SAT, without any path or page identifiers.

8. Verify Connection

  1. Confirm the integration shows as Connected

  2. Wait 15-30 minutes for initial data sync
  3. Navigate to Anzenna's Training dashboard

  4. Verify user training data is appearing

Managing the Integration

Checking Connection Status

  1. Go to Anzenna > Integrations

  2. Review Proofpoint SAT status indicator
  3. Check last successful sync timestamp
  4. Review for any error messages

Regenerating API Token

If token is compromised:

  1. In Proofpoint SAT, go to Company Settings > API Tokens

  2. Delete the existing Anzenna token
  3. Create a new token with same permissions
  4. Copy the new token
  5. Update in Anzenna integration settings
  6. Click Save

Handling Token Expiration

  1. Set calendar reminder 30 days before expiration

  2. Generate new token before old one expires
  3. Update Anzenna configuration immediately
  4. Test connection after update

Troubleshooting

Connection Fails

"Invalid API token" error:

  • Verify token was copied completely (no trailing spaces)

  • Ensure token wasn't accidentally regenerated

  • Check that token wasn't deleted in Proofpoint

  • Confirm admin who created token still has access

No Data Appearing

Training data not syncing:

  • Wait 30-60 minutes for initial sync
  • Verify Reporting permission is enabled
  • Check base URL format is correct
  • Ensure users exist in both systems
  • Confirm training campaigns are active

Base URL Issues

"Cannot connect to API" error:

  • Verify base URL format matches pattern
  • Remove any trailing slashes
  • Check that URL is accessible from network
  • Confirm no typos in identifier or region
  • Ensure HTTPS protocol is used

Permission Errors

API returns 403 Forbidden:

  • Verify Reporting permission is selected
  • Confirm token creator still has admin rights

  • Check organization hasn't changed API settings

  • Try regenerating token with correct permissions

Security Considerations

  • API token security - Treat as confidential credential

  • Access logging - Monitor who accesses training data

  • Token rotation - Implement rotation policy if required

  • Principle of least privilege - Reporting permission is read-only

  • Audit trail - All data access logged in both systems

Best Practices

  1. Use never expire - Reduces maintenance if security policy allows

  2. Document base URL - Record URL format and region

  3. Test after setup - Verify data flows correctly

  4. Monitor regularly - Check sync status weekly

  5. Set reminders - Calendar alerts if using expiring tokens

  6. Backup token - Store securely in password manager

  7. Review permissions - Audit quarterly

Integration Maintenance

Regular Health Checks

Perform monthly:

  • Verify connection active
  • Check data freshness
  • Review sync timestamps
  • Test sample queries

During Proofpoint Updates

After platform updates:

  • Test API connectivity
  • Verify data still syncing
  • Check for new available metrics
  • Update documentation if needed

Annual Review

Once per year:

  • Assess integration value
  • Review data usage
  • Consider token rotation
  • Update procedures

The integration helps with:

  • Security awareness compliance reporting
  • Training completion documentation
  • Phishing resilience metrics
  • Regulatory requirement evidence

Export Capabilities

Data can be exported for:

  • Board reports
